Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday sworn in the newly elected 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas, Chairmen, and urged them to work in unity with other tiers of Government to bring to bear the dividends of democracy on the lives of people, in all the relevant areas.
In his address Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said, “Today, we are witnessing the dawn of a new era in Local Government administration in Lagos State. The swearing-in formality, which we have just witnessed, has officially concluded the transition of power from the former Chairmen and Vice Chairmen whose tenure has just expired.
‘It is expected that you will work in unity with other tiers of Government to bring to bear the dividends of democracy on the lives of people, in all the relevant areas: construction and maintenance of inner roads, waste management, primary education, healthcare, security, welfare programmes touch the lives of people, and so on. This is not the elinate some people because of political difference but time to give all citizens good governance. This is the time for people to feel good governance.
‘I commend the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, under the able leadership of Honourable Justice Ayotunde Philips (Rtd), for living up to the responsibility and duties of the Commission as enshrined in the law that established it.’
In his address at the occasion Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs,Dr Wale Ahmed in his address at the ceremony urged the Local Government Chairpersons to cover all sectors and sub-sectors, in tune with the THEMES Agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to him ‘It is no gain-say, that Government exist because of the people and it will continue to exist because of the people. This is why your re-election/election is another call to a season of service, dedication and selflessness to our people.
Therefore, the task ahead of you is to sustain or even surpass the tempo of performance of previous administrations in your respective council areas.
We expect that the scope of delivery by this crop of honourable chairmen and vice chairmen, would cover all sectors and sub-sectors, in tune with the THEMES Agenda of our dear Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.’
