For Nollywood actor turned politician, Hon. Desmond Elliot the day a woman blatantly rejected a mini-flat apartment gift from him will linger on in his memory.
Hon. Elliot who represents Surulere Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly was moved by the woman’s plight and living condition to get a decent mini-flat accommodation for her at Ore Ofe Street, Surulere, Lagos, but rather than graciously accepting the gift, the woman rejected it and claimed holy spirit told her to do so.
The said woman engaged in laundry services in exchange for cash from some residents of Surulere at a constructed borehole project by the Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila. The borehole had been erected by Hon. Gbajabiamila when he was majority leader of House of Representatives. It’s sited at Iluseyi Street in Surulere, Lagos. At some point, the borehole got spoilt, Hon. Desmond Elliot repaired it and powered it with generator.
However, before Desmond Elliot bought the generator, the woman, in her response to the hue and cry of the people that the essence of the borehole is defeated when there is no light to power it, had bought a giant generator to pump the water.
The information of the woman’s kind gesture and her pitiable condition got to Hon. Elliot and he decided to get an apartment for her but the offer was turned down by the woman.
Reliable sources said four years after she rejected Desmond Elliot’s mini-flat apartment gift the woman is still homeless.
It however remain a mystery if holy spirit can truly instruct someone to reject a generous gift.
