Opinion: The Three Selection Dilemmas For Jose Mourinho Ahead of Man United Clash – Naijanewsdirect

For the first time since arriving at Tottenham Hotspur in November, Jose Mourinho could have the luxury of having a fully fit squad to choose from when the Premier League season returns in two weeks time.

While the return to fitness of key players like Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko has given the Spurs boss several options, he will also have to make some difficult choices in picking his strongest eleven.

While most of the eleven would still pick itself, I believe there are three main selection headaches that Jose will face for the clash against his old club.

1) Toby Alderweireld vs Eric Dier

I expect Serge Aurier and Ben Davies to start in the two full-back positions, while Davinson Sanchez is also likely to get the nod having been our most consistent central defender this season.

The question is whether Jose goes with Dier or Alderweireld as Sanchez’s partner.  Alderweireld’s performances this campaign has left a lot to be desired as he has failed to live up to his usual standards since signing the contract. However, I expect the 29-year-old to still get the nod over Dier for the clash against United.

2) Harry Winks vs Moussa Sissoko

Picking the midfield three is perhaps the hardest choice that Jose has to make. With Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli, Oliver Skipp, and Gedson Fernandes all competing for three spots in the side, it will be interesting to see who the Spurs boss favours.

I personally believe that a fully fit Dele and Lo Celso will both get into the side. So, that likely leaves Jose to choose between Sissoko and Winks.

Mourinho has shown much more faith in Winks that I thought he would when he first arrived at the club.

Sissoko played almost every game until the injury he picked up in January and his energy to get up and down the pitch will help cover for Aurier when the right-back bombs forward.

However, I believe Jose is likely to give Winks the nod, despite the fact that he is walking a disciplinary tight-rope (Football.London)

3) Lucas Moura vs Steven Bergwijn

When it comes to our front three, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min pick themselves. The question is who starts with them – Lucas or Bergwijn?

Mourinho has shown a lot of trust in Lucas and seems to have developed a good relationship with the Brazilian but Bergwijn hit the ground running before picking up an injury in March.

I expect the Dutch international to get the nod and Lucas to come on from the bench when the opposition tire.

With the rules being changed to allow five substitutions instead of three, no matter who Jose starts, he can certainly put the squad to good use.
