The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, says he is confident the party will win the Lagos governorship election in 2023.
Abubakar said this at the interactive session he held at Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos on Tuesday with the members of the Lagos PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The former Vice President said he is ready to support the party in winning the governorship election, adding that he is used to fulfilling promises.
Abubakar added ” I am assuring you that we will protect you and your interest in Lagos. I have come to see for myself that PDP in on ground in Lagos and this makes me believe Olajide Adediran will be the next governor of Lagos in 2023.
In his welcome address, the governorship candidate of the Lagos PDP, Dr Olajide Adediran (Jandor), said that Lagosians were patiently waiting to receive their next president, adding that Lagos PDP members have spoken to themselves to deliver the state for Atiku in 2023.
Adediran said that what Lagosians want was a Nigerian President and that Atiku has all the features, adding ” We believe this is time to deliver Lagos for the PDP”.
Earlier, Abubakar had attended the presidential economic agenda forum of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lagos.
Speaking on his plans for the economy, Abubakar said he will pursue a “warm handshake policy for the private sector”.
“We will ensure we give a warm handshake to the private sector. They are important for any sector or economy to succeed,” he said.
“No one should downplay the enormity of the tasks ahead. Indeed, I cannot think of a more daunting challenge than restoring confidence in the future of Nigeria as a dynamic economy and stable democracy,” he said.
“I have a good grasp of the challenges bedevilling Nigeria. I know the root causes of our problems. I know that many of these problems are self-inflicted and can be reversed if we are determined. And we are determined.
“I will not come unprepared. It is not in my character as a businessman or as a public officer to be caught off guard. My policy document contains the right policies that will be timely delivered.
“Nigeria is being dressed in borrowed robes. APC has consistently run on a budget deficit since 2015… above three percent permissible threshold under FRA… and more if you add CBN and AMCON debt in ways and means,” he said.
