Democracy Day: Nigeria On Pathway To Greatness, Says Lagos Speaker Obasa – Naijanewsdirect

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has described Nigeria as a country currently on a track to greatness just as he urged the citizens to play active roles for this to be fully achieved. Dr. Obasa said this in a statement at the weekend to commemorate Nigeria's Democracy Day which coincides with the 29th anniversary of the June 12, 1993 elections claimed to have been won by the late Chief Moshood Abiola. According to the Speaker, Nigeria had, since 1999, experienced what could best be described as the teething stage of its democratic journey with the need for unity taking the centre-stage of public discourse. "However, it is now very glaring that we are on the threshold of history with the forthcoming general elections that is now heralded by the smooth convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the emergence of our flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. "The new story that we all anticipate, envisage and dream about for our country is achievable and right before us. Our hopes are rekindled. All that is required is our collectively resolve to be part of the ship of progress," Obasa said in the statement by his media office. Thanking Nigerian leaders, the civil society and citizens who joined in the struggle for the emancipation of the country from the military, Obasa added: "We remain steadfast in our resolve to make our democracy truly work for us all as Nigerians. "History will forever be kind to those who made Nigeria's democracy possible. They are our country's real heroes. "We are honoured to be the current bearers of the baton of democracy and we look forward to upholding the labour of these heroes."

Ahead of the 2023 election, a special Tawaf is to be held on Thursday, April 28, for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and top contender for the office of the president. Tagged ‘Special Tawaf for Asiwaju’, the session is to commence by 12 noon and would be conducted around Kaabah at the centre of Islam's most important mosque, the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Mudashiru Obasa and The Small London Called Agege***by Eromosele Ebhomele – Naijanewsdirect

"Sentiments aside, this man has really done well for Agege as a whole. So many roads (including my in-law's street) built and many folks are empowered! I will always wish him success in all his moves."   That was a short message I got from a journalist and owner of a news medium recently. I had just sent out a story that had to do with the sudden endorsement of Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the unassuming Right Honourable Speaker of Lagos, by notable leaders in the Agege area of the State. The media man could not hold back his love for the man who has succeeded in turning Agege, a very busy but hitherto behindhand area of the State into a "mini-London", apologies to Segun Ekundayo, a friend and resident of the area, who told me in December last year: "Obasa is a lifetime opportunity and blessing to Agege. He can never be forgotten."   To Ekundayo, a human and industrial relations professional, Agege is now a mini-London. He opins that Speaker Obasa's love for Agege is further boosted by the fact that he has remained a resident of the place even with his status as the third citizen of the State. "You will hardly find a political office holder who would want to remain with the people he lived with before his stars shone so bright. Many would leave their original places and go stamp their feets in choice areas only sneeking back when it is time for election. Obasa has never lived outside Agege and this is the reason he sees every of the people's challenges, he has suffered from poor road infrastructure just like the pepper seller, the businessman, the motorists and residents. And today, his name is everywhere, even in the mouths of children.   "Let me tell you, that bridge that

Tinubu also described himself as the most qualified for the position of President in 2023 adding that his aspiration is for a nation that would not be an index of poverty. The presidential aspirant said this at a one-day parley held for serving Speakers and former Speakers and deputies held in Lagos with the theme: The Legislature, Changing Times and Nigeria's Democratic Journey. "We have the brilliance, the resources, the focus. We don't just know how to run the race and take care of the gear of progress," Tinubu said at the event hosted by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Tinubu further described himself as brilliant, courageous and sound enough to know the solutions to Nigeria's problems adding: "Just as I need Nigeria, Nigeria needs me." Noting his can-do attitude, he recalled how he changed the fortunes of Lagos when he became governor of the State at a time of its challenge. "In the face of tyranny, I have survived, struggled for democracy, I have endured the bush path, lived without a family, spent resources. "To make Nigeria one is a task and who could do it? I am one. I am the first governor to grant autonomy to the House of Assembly. I survived non-allocation of local government funds. We didn't suffer, we didn't retrench. We made progress out of adversity. "I inherited N600m as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) with zero allocation from Federal Accounte Allocation Committee (FAAC). But we survived and today, Lagos is
