By: Tunde Ogunmola As the road to the 2023 general elections intensifies, one of Nigeria’s high-flying socialites and fledgling politicians, Prince Rahmon Taiwo, popularly known in social circles as Raymond ‘Dokpesi,’ has joined the fray of politicians who want to compete for honours in the coming polls. As a business mogul and real estate investor, Prince Rahmon Taiwo, whose foray into the murky waters of politics did not come as a surprise, made good his age long desire and intention of venturing into the esoteric world of politics. Although, he’s a famous socialite, he is, at the same time not alien to the politics of his area. He was born into politics just like his late father, Alhaji Taiwo used to be an active politician in his hey days. In fact, he was the first chairman of Mushin Local Government area of Lagos state. Born and bred in the same community where his father governed at the grassroots level, Prince Rahmon Taiwo has decided to take a shot at the House of Representatives seat of Mushin Constituency 2 under the platform of All Progressives Congress, (APC.) Sources revealed to Naijanewsdirect that as a Mushin born and brought up, Prince Rahmon Taiwo strongly believes he has what it takes to change the narratives in terms of developments and bringing dividends of democracy to the residents of the community. To realize his dream, the light-complexioned socialite-cum-politician, as you are reading this, Raymon has picked up his expression of interest and nomination forms and he’s raring to go.
His name rings bells in and outside the Mushin locality. Yinka Kazeem ‘Esho’ is a household name in the Mushin political firmament. His name came into political prominence and recognition in 2003, when he slugged it out with the now Apex Leader of Mushin Local Government, Distinguished Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, (GOS,) for the chairmanship seat of Mushin LG during which the ‘GOS Again’ slogan was coined in the Mushin political terrain. A seasoned socialite, Yinka ‘Esho’ was between June 2016 and July 2017 Sole Administrator of Mushin Local Government. Prior to this appointment by erstwhile Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the socialite-cum-politician, who is so passionate about what goes on in Mushin as a geographical expression, and its people in general was a Senior Special Assistant, (SSA,) on School Rehabilitation in 2007, and later the Special Assistant to Senator Ganiyu Solomon when the latter was Senate Minority Whip, between 2012 and 2015. Now he has his eyes on contesting for a seat in the vibrant hallowed chamber of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to represent Mushin Constituency 2. In this exclusive interview with Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Naijanewsdirect, TUNDE OGUNMOLA, Yinka Kazeem spoke vividly on his 2023 ambition, and his lifelong desire of making positive and appreciable impacts/changes in Mushin and the lives of its constituents. Excerpts… You’re a household name in Mushin, born and bred in Mushin, what’s your perception of Mushin of then and now? There is no basis for comparison between Mushin of then and Mushin of now. There are now more developments in Mushin of today, just like the way we cannot compare Lagos of then to Lagos of now. Notwithstanding, people are still asking for more. Mushin is a work in progress. I could recall vividly you once aspired for the chairmanship of Mushin LG in 2003 when
The Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in Lagos state, Mr Seye Oladejo has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the forthcoming general elections. The one time commissioner for Special Duties in Lagos made his intention known on Friday, 18th March, 2022 at a meeting held with the APC party executives in his local government, Mushin, Lagos. Seye Oladejo who intends to represent Mushin Constituency 2 at the Green Chamber while speaking with party executives at the party secretariat said thus: "Next to God are human beings, the leaders empowered to direct the affairs of this great party. They deserve nothing but honour whether they are present here or not,” he said. “I must sincerely honour our number 1 leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Everyone here will agree with me that Asiwaju is a special divine creator who stands out among political leaders in this country. “And it is often said that politics is well done locally. At our level, our Apex leader is my boss, Senator Olanrewaju Solomon. He is a leader who always wishes that his followers become great. “Senator Solomon was instrumental in my emergence as the Secretary to Mushin Local Government. “I have come here to declare my intention to represent Mushin Constituency 2 not because I consider myself as the best among the politicians in Mushin. “I can make bold to say that I am one of those who are capable to contest for this post. I have served in different political capacities. My political journey began as a ward secretary, and I have served as the state commissioner. “Considering the sensitivity of this post, an experienced, bold and qualified person must be chosen to represent this constituency,” Seye Oladejo said.
Local government is popularly referred to as grassroots government. It is commonly known as the closest government to the people. Viewed from this perspective, local government is a concrete reality to the people not an abstract entity that is detached from them. In view of this, it’s a government that should be able to feel, understand and respond to the needs and expectations of the people under its watch. In the contemporary Nigerian society, not only are the needs and expectations of people at the grassroots are not met, there’s also a sharp disconnect between the local people and many local government administrators in terms of accessibility, policy formulation and provision of services. However, in spite of these identified surmountable challenges, it is definitely not out of place to see some local government administrators in Nigeria who are models for their colleagues and have continued to exhibit good leadership traits and hearken to the yearnings of their people by providing dividends of democracy. One of such local government administrators whose encompassing style of grassroots governance has continually engender him to the people of his community is Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area. Hon. Ajala’s ascension to the exalted seat of Odi-Olowo /Ojuwoye LCDA, in Mushin area of Lagos state, has brought integrated development to the highly industrialized council. He’s currently spending his second term in office as the Chairman of the Council. Broadly speaking, there are two functions that local governments perform. The first group of functions are those enshrined in the Fourth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution. The second group of functions are those that can aptly be described as civic and agency functions. These functions are: provision and maintenance of healthcare services, minor maintenance of state and federal roads, civic mobilization and sensitization etc. Talking about minor
Mushin Local Government has debunked rumour making the rounds that the hoodlums attacking protesters at #ENDSARS protest in Alausa are from Mushin and sponsored by Baba Alado as well as Lagos State Government. The statement was contained in a press release from the office of the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye. Find below the press release: The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, wishes to inform the general public that the information as released by @savvyrinu on twitter earlier today on his page (time: 8.44am) is false. Our youths in Mushin held peaceful protests recently and we advised them to be peaceful during the protests. It was not encouraging to read on the social media especially twitter that Mushin sponsored hoodlums to disrupt the peaceful protest at Alausa secretariat as well as tagging Baba Alado and the Lagos State Government in the act. I will advise our teaming youths to verify information very well before releasing to the public. Our amiable Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, had achieved extraordinary goals by delivering the demands of the youths to the President, His excellency, General Muhammad Buhari and swiftly, positive decisions were made towards youths' demands. SARS is dissolved; victims trust fund opened; other beneficial opportunities now in place and more to come. Mushin Local Government is in support of the youth movement and a better Nigeria. Signed: Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye Executive Chairman, Mushin Local Government.
