2023 Election: Sanwo-Olu Gets Automatic Clearance As GAC Affirms Him For Second Term – Naijanewsdirect

The highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has endorsed Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, for a second term in office. Gboyega Akosile, spokesman to Sanwo-Olu, announced the development in a post on his social media handles on Monday. According to Akosile, the decision was taken after a meeting of the council on Monday. “Breaking news: Lagos GAC gives nod to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term bid. The Governance Advisory Council at a meeting in Lagos today gave pass mark to Sanwo-Olu for staying through to the developmental agenda of Lagos. Congratulations dear boss!” Akosile wrote. The development comes weeks after the GAC had dismissed speculations that it had endorsed another candidate for the 2023 governorship election. “The GAC has not settled for any person to replace Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as governor. Therefore, it is absolutely false and preposterous for anyone to suggest so,” the GAC had said in a statement issued in January 2022. “The process of picking a Governor is clearly stated in the constitution. And contrary to the false impression the merchant of hate, confusion, discord and disharmony wanted to create with the post, there is no discussion of second term ticket by the GAC. “It should also be pointed out that it is not within the realm of GAC to engage in picking replacements for a governor. “Importantly, the Independent National Electoral Commission has not signaled the commencement of the process for governorship election in Lagos State.”

The youths group, in a statement issued on Friday and Co-signed by the National President, Teslim Ajagbe and Secretary, Sunday Abayomi, acknowledged the fatherly role the governor had been playing so far since the EndSARS protest and its aftermath, saying that his fatherly role and democratic dispositions to the protest should not be taken for granted by the few. PYGG said that the stage of grandstanding by the few youths in the state and their uncouth comments on the white paper from the government was a total aberration to the principle of 'Omoluabi'. The youths said the walk for peace is not only for healing but also a walk to express appreciation to the governor on so many youth-oriented programmes and empowerment his administration had embarked on since 2019. " We are fully ready to walk for peace with our youth oriented and focused Governor. It is not an issue of optionality or so. We have lived and non-life insurance and that is very compulsory “Presently, we have over 73,000 employees on our database from the ministries and all these employees are covered under the life insurance. “This year alone, we have paid over N2 billion in insurance premium to cover life and non-life. Why Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s CPS, Gboyega Akosile Rejected Offer To Become A Lawmaker! – Naijanewsdirect

It is uncontentious fact that Gboyega Akosile is the Chief Press Secretary CPS to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. He was firstly appointed the Deputy Chief Press Secretary  (DCPS ) to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the inception of Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s administration in May 2019. Gboyega was, however, subsequently appointed a substantive Chief Press Secretary (CPS) by the Governor on 21st August, 2019, in a statement issued by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola. However, unknown to many, Gboyega’s father, late Alhaji Malik Akosile used to be a prominent political leader in Mushin area of Lagos. He was prominent among the political leaders in Mushin who welcomed and received Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Mushin many years back. This was when the APC national leader contested for the Senate. Interestingly, Gboyega would have had in his resume a one-time grassroots lawmaker in Mushin, but sheer providence prevented it from coming to fruition. Reason being that, as an influential political leader in Mushin then, his father was compensated with a councillorship slot during the zero party system, and a relatively young Gboyega, was called upon to take up the challenge and contest to become a lawmaker in Mushin LG, but his educational pursuit prevented him from contesting for a councillorship seat.   As at that time, Gboyega was studying at the University of Ilorin. Gboyega, reliable sources divulged exclusively to Naija News Direct, blatantly rejected the councillorship offer. He was quoted to have said he couldn’t substitute or abandon his educational pursuit for anything, not even a councillorship seat.
