Tinubu: A Cat With Many Lives ***by Kassim Afegbua – Naijanewsdirect

In 2015, when the race to the general election got to a fever pitch, all manner of theories and conspiracies were woven around Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as though he was the candidate of the newly formed All Progressives Congress. The AIT did a documentary deliberately targeted at the former Lagos state Governor entitled; THE LION OF BOURDILON which attempted a faulty characterisation of Asiwaju Tinubu as someone who represented the good, the bad and the ugly in the 2015 political narratives. President Goodluck Jonathan was running against the grains following the idea of zoning that is enshrined in the PDP constitution. The AIT documentary made a lot of unsubstantiated allegations and claims against Tinubu, all in a bid to demarket him and sent the APC on the slippery slope to perdition. He was not running election, but once he’s out of the equation, they reasoned rightly, then General Buhari’s chances would be impaired. That didn’t happen. Asiwaju Tinubu stayed the cause and took AIT to court to prove the allegations before all. Going by the swing of the pendulum, AIT opted for out of court settlement, after several rebuttal, apologies and public disclaimer of the said hatchet job of a documentary. The Jonathan administration knew too well that without Asiwaju Tinubu’s support, it would be difficult to sail through. This is primarily because the initial promises made by President Jonathan in 2011 were not fulfilled to carry Tinubu along. When it was time to strike another accord, Asiwaju Tinubu reminded him of the earlier failed promises. The rest as they often say, has become history. The AIT recant was enough opportunity for the Nigeria media to be circumspect on matters they lack enough information on. When Asiwaju Tinubu was Governor of Lagos, he had a running battle with Late Gani Fawehinmi over educational

Tinubu Kicks Against CBN’s Approach of Tackling Inflation, Proffers Solutions – Naijanewsdirect

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has stated raising interest rates is not the solution to rising inflation. According to Daily Trust, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has raised the interest rate to arrest the sharp rise in inflation which rose in August to 20.52 per cent from 19.64 per cent in the previous month, the highest in 17 years. Nigeria’s apex bank has raised interest rates three times in 2022. It first raised the rates to 13 per cent in May, 14 percent in July and 15.5 percent in October, the highest ever since 2006.   But in his manifesto tagged, “Renewed Hope”, Tinubu said the current increasing inflationary trend was caused essentially by global supply disruptions, saying addressing it is not be increasing the interest rates.   “To impose the usual anti-inflation medicine of higher interest rates and tighter money-supply will only weaken the patient,” Tinubu said.     “The current surge of inflation is essentially driven by global supply and production disruptions beyond the control of any one government, including Nigeria’s. This is supply-driven inflation, not inflation caused by excess demand in an overheated economy. “To impose the usual anti-inflation medicine of higher interest rates and tighter money-supply will only weaken the patient. The answer to supply-driven inflation is not to suppress normal aggregate demand levels. “The better solution is to find ways to increase production and supply. To suppress demand will result in the overall loss of economic activity and jobs. Worse, since the inflation is grounded in supply side issues, placing this weight on the demand side will do little to answer the root causes of current inflation. In short, we punish the national economy and the people without deriving any meaningful benefit.”     Tinubu further stated that the efficiency of monetary policy in driving overall economic goals is limited, adding that

In a statement by his Media Office on Saturday in Abuja, Tinubu said: “I felicitate and rejoice with Muslim in Nigeria and around the world on this occasion of Eid- Maulud. This festival offers yet another opportunity for all of us to reflect and spread love and goodness to one another. We must strive to imbibe those virtues Prophet Muhammed (SAW) is noted and adored for, among them love, forgiveness, sacrifice, tolerance and peaceful coexistence. “While praying fervently for Nigeria to confront the challenges besetting her, we must also enjoin our Islamic Ummah to seek Allah’s intercession. “I sympathize again with victims of recent flooding in Kogi, Edo and Nasarawa states and pray that Almighty Allah comfort them and their families. “Governments at all levels must immediately extend relief materials to them, take efforts to mitigate the effects of the disaster and initiate measures against future occurrence. It is regrettable and hurtful to see hundreds of our people rendered homeless and forlorn with their properties, farmlands and other valuables lost to the floods. “And as we go into another round of elections next year, let me also use this opportunity to seek prayers for a peaceful, hitch-free and successful election. We must elect only leaders committed and determined to make the required difference in our

Tinubu’s Independence Day Speech: “I Stand Committed To A Prosperous, Violence-free, Democratic Nigeria” – Naijanewsdirect

Today, we mark our independence as a nation. On this day 62 years ago, we set forth to determine our own way, to shape our own destiny. The path we walk has not always been an easy or smooth one, but we walk it nonetheless because it is the road hewn by our own hands, ingenuity and aspirations. In this complex time, it is easy to forget the struggles of those who came before us. Those Nigerian founders and nationalists who devoted themselves to making the dream of an independent and proud Nigeria a reality. But we must not forget. We commemorate this day so that our nation shall forever hold in remembrance those who won our nation’s independence. There is no way we can repay them for their patriotism except to remember them and strive to match their love of country and their sacrifice for it.  Some gave not only their best years but their very lives so that Nigeria can be born. Their labour shall never be in vain! Indeed, we have come a long way from 1960 when we gained independence. We have walked far since then. Still, the best of our national journey lies before and not behind us. Since 1999, our country has experienced 23 years of uninterrupted democracy. While, we have firmly established democracy as our way of governance, we still have work to do in perfecting our form of governance such that government will always and completely be for, of, by and because of the people. That our people live in the dignity afforded by prosperity, justice, freedom and an unyielding belief in our capacity to overcome any obstacle was what compelled our founders to strive for the independence we now enjoy. This anniversary of our independence offers us the opportunity to take stock of how far

He said his team is also capable of creating prosperity for Nigeria and her citizens. “We are the party of progressive ideas. We want good education for our children, good development for Nigeria, prosperity for this country and for agriculture and agro-allied projects to be embarked upon. “We have the confidence; we have what it takes. We have the courage. We have the determination. We have the perseverance,’’ he said. The presidential candidate added that the APC had no worries about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or engaging it in war of words. He said that the APC, a party of thinkers and doers needed no such engagement with the opposition still struggling with its leadership. “We shall not be hauling abuses at rival political parties. We are smarter. We are brilliant. We are courageous. We are not like them. “They spent 16 years and forgot that railway infrastructure does haulage goods and humans across Nigeria,’’ he noted. He advised the PDP wait for Election Day in 2023 to see the defeat awaiting it. He appreciated the forum for its gesture. “You make life easier for us no `sisi’ is demanded from us. Vehicles are provided, logo is unveiled, confidence boosting measure established; forward looking and hope rekindled; good for the prosperity of our country,’’ he said. In his remarks, the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Sen. Kashim Shettima, expressed confidence that Tinubu’s leadership would build a new Nigeria. “We are on the threshold of making history. The global economy is tinkering towards recession; the world has moved
