Real Reason Why Tinubu’s DG, Jibrin Dumped APC – Naijanewsdirect

It's no longer news that the Director General (DG) of the Bola Tinubu Campaign Organization,  Abdulmumin Jibrin has announced his decision to dump the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), what is news is the reason behind his decision.Contrary to widespread belief that his defection may be as a result of a possible rejection of Asiwaju’s 2023 ambition by President Muhammadu Buhari, Jibrin’s problems arise from a decision not to give him the party’s ticket to return to the House of Representatives. Jibrin and Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje have been at loggerheads for sometime over local political issues. It can be recalled that Jibrin had represented Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2019 before losing the re-run election to the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. However, Tinubu has been informed of the problem and has now stepped into the matter. It was gathered that the former Lagos state governor has reached out to Governor Ganduje to resolve the matter. A reliable source disclosed that Jibrin will also be meeting with Tinubu in a matter of hours for a total resolution of the crisis.

2023: Emefiele Keeps Mum As 3 Groups Purchase APC Nomination Form For The CBN Governor – Naijanewsdirect

Ahead of the 2023 presidential race, three different groups have purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. The groups, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Friends of Emefiele and Emefiele Support Group, said Emefiele is  the only responsible and responsive person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2023 general election. The forms were procured for the CBN boss for N100 million on Thursday in Abuja. However, the CBN governor has not officially indicated interest in running for presidency. Emefiele had said that he was focused on strengthening the nation’s economy amid calls by supporters that he should contest for the nation’s topmost office in 2023. According to the groups,  Nigeria is passing through a lot of economic and security challenges, and the parties and electorates must bring in experience, dynamism, energy, equity and fairness in the choice of who becomes the next President of Nigeria. Expressing the reason for their push for Emefiele, they said the CBN governor's tenure as head of the Nigeran apex bank, has shown capacity, focus, courage and worked tirelessly with the economic team of President Mohammadu Buhari to keep the economy of our great country afloat above recession and outright collapse. Other aspirants of the APC presidential tickets are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, State Minister for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngige, former Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and former Abia governor and serving senator, Orji Uzor Kalu. Confusion As N43million Missing At APC National Secretariat – Naijanewsdirect

There was a bit of confusion at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday as at least N43,000,000 reportedly went missing. Our correspondent observed that the canopy under which the sale of forms took place was suddenly dismantled without explanation. The PUNCH reports that the party resorted to canopies due to the ongoing renovation/refurbishment works being carried out in the secretariat main building. It was gathered that the sum of $75,000 had gone missing amid the crowded struggle at the main entrance to the party premises. Party sources, however, disclosed that the missing money was in no way connected to the monies from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms as aspirants are expected to make deposits in the designated account numbers before picking up their forms at the Buhari House. “It’s actually $75,000. You know there was a struggle at the gate when aspirants and supporters were trying to get in. “When the parcel of money dropped, it went missing in a flash. By the time security operatives were alerted, the thief had vanished with the envelope,” the party source said. Earlier, the secretariat had been a beehive of activities as aspirants trooped in to obtain forms for various electoral offices. On the outside of Buhari House were hundreds of supporters lined up to cheer their respective aspirants as they made their way into the premises. Wednesday’s sale of forms had made it clear that the party premises might not accommodate the nearly two-week exercise. Therefore, talks are underway to relocate to a different venue altogether. As of the time of filing this report, some officials of the party were heard deliberating to move the exercise to International Conference Centre, Abuja. Source: Punch

Soyinka Lambastes Buhari On Omisore’s Emergence As APC National Secretary – Naijanewsdirect

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has knocked President Muhammadu Buhari over the endorsement of Sen Iyiola Omisore who was the prime suspect in the murder of late Attorney General, Bola Ige, as National Secretary of the APC. In his reaction which was contained in a statement he signed, Soyinka was concerned that in about three months after the 20th anniversary of the death of Ige, Omisore emerged as the scribe of APC. He said rather than revisit his subsisting election pledge to re-open the files of unsolved political assassinations, Buhari went ahead to anoint Omisore. “That pledge was to re-open the files on the spate of unsolved political assassinations that had plagued the nation in recent decades. Prominent among those cases was that of the Minister of Justice, murdered on his way to take up a prestigious position with the United Nations.   “Presidential response was swift. Buhari ordered the Inspector-General of Police to re-open those files and resume investigations. The nation has patiently awaited even a hint of  Work in Progress. Most, I am certain, expect no less than a revaluation of prior investigative efforts. None, to my knowledge, has attempted to rush the Chief of Police and his team into judgment.  We all take solace in the knowledge that the wheels of justice grind slowly, but they arrive.   “Not for a moment does one suggest that mere accusation, even trial,  presumes Guilt. More than mere verdict is involved in any trial however. The process of arriving at that ultimate destination – justice –  is integral to the very concept of democracy and equality under the law. That process is one of the structures of civic education. “Unresolved till today were quite a number of untidy, even suspect aspects of investigation, prosecution and trials, aspects which revealed improper cell co-habitation by suspects under custody. That this

Abuja-Kaduna Train Attack: Buhari’s Government is a Complete Disaster, Says ADP – Naijanewsdirect

The National Chairman of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Engr. Yabagi Yusuf-Sani, has described the government of President Muhammadu Buhari as an unmitigated disaster and a woeful failure in the provision of security and safety of the people. Yusuf-Sani said this at a press conference on the terror attacks on the Abuja-Kaduna bound train, held in Lagos on Thursday.   The ADP Chairman said the unfortunate incident had once again pungently thrown up questions about the competence and attitude of the Buhari-led APC Federal Government over the security of the lives and property of citizens, adding " a casual chronicle of similar happenings in the recent past, especially, in the notorious axis where terrorism hold sway in the North of the country, will graphically reveal that the latest phenomenon of calamity visited on Nigerians last Monday, is merely another portrayal of the high level of the lackluster disposition, corruption, debauchery and myopia of the officials of this government put in charge of our national assets and our security.   "For instance, the bombardment and assault on the train last Monday occurred barely one week after a brazen daylight invasion of the Kaduna International airport by another horde of highly armed terrorists. Two people were officially reported killed and flight operations disrupted as a result.   "Among the many puzzles arising from the attack on the Kaduna Airport include: How was it possible for the over two hundred heavily armed terrorists who rode on motor bikes, to have been able to gain access to the vicinity of the airport and to the tarmac, with ease? The invaders also amazingly, operated and disappeared into the thin air without any arrest or casualties on their part! The only plausible and logical explanation is that, the airport had been left without any level of security surveillance equipment and was also, bereft of

Opinion: Harvard Economist Sees Emefiele As The Next Obasanjo – Naijanewsdirect

It’s not very often that a sitting central bank governor is lauded by throngs of singing and dancing supporters, but backers of CBN governor Godwin Emefiele may have just made history at this weekend’s APC national convention. The political theatre, whether organic or facilitated, is a quirky tribute to a technocrat whose celebrity status usually doesn’t stretch past the Davos city limits. In a crowded field of candidates for the APC’s presidential nominee, however, it’s unsurprisingly necessary to pull out all the stops to get ahead of the pack.     Emefiele, for his part, has so far kept silent on whether he will formally run. While others are quick to throw their hats in the ring, the CBN governor appears to be taking the route of a diligent-but-humble public servant who may be pressured into running. Although that path above the fray is well-trodden, Emefiele’s powerful, current position has ruffled plenty of feathers. In February, Premium Times ran an editorial calling on Emefiele to either resign and run, or remain in his post and repudiate any electoral ambitions. Similarly, just days ago the main opposition party, the PDP, offered a 21-tweet salute accusing Emefiele of having “desecrated the sanctity of his office as CBN Governor.” If the governor were to formally enter the arena of partisan politics, there would be intense pressure upon him to resign his tenure as the country’s top banker.     Aside from his powerful post, why does Emefiele draw so much lightning? The APC is expected to select a candidate from the South for the 2023 ticket (some say the south west, specifically, but that remains to be confirmed). Born in Delta state, Emefiele is described as having “a candidature with South South and Igbo background.” His professional experience is also strong. He came to the apex bank with 20
