Billionaire businessman and Executive Chairman, Geregu Power Plant, Femi Otedola, comes across as a phenomenon of sorts. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to say that his life epitomises a tenacity of purpose. His ability as a strategist and winner has never been in doubts. Indeed, every move he makes, either in his business or private life, has never escaped the attention of newshounds. He is a delight to professional journalists and biographers. If you choose to write about his uncommon feats as a businessman, you will come up with volumes of work that will most likely intimidate a bibliophile. In the same way, if you choose to document his philanthropic acts, in black and white, your hand may grow tired. Whenever the businessman dabbles into any business, it usually becomes a major story not only in the media, online and traditional media but among other business owners, the elite as well as those on the streets. The Lagos born business mogul once again showcased his milk of kindness as he promised Nigeria’s football team, the Super Eagles at the on going African Cup of Nations, AFCON, the sum of $250, 000 if they win the trophy. The message was delivered today by government delegation to Cameroon led by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. You will recall that the man with heart of gold gave out the sum of $50,000 to the Super Eagles at the 2019 edition of AFCON. The team lost at the Semi Finals to Algeria though. This latest effort by Otedola has further foregrounded his abiding fellow-feeling and love for humanity. In the past years, Otedola had put smiles on the faces of a number of eminent Nigerians , including the late musician Majek Fashek; Christian Chukwu, a former captain and coach of the Super Eagles; Peter Fregene, a former

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked Gernot Rohr as coach of the Super Eagles. “This is with immediate effect, and follows the termination of the relationship with Franco-German Gernot Rohr, who has been in charge of the three-time African champions for the past 64 months, and is Nigeria’s longest-serving manager,” a statement from NFF stated on Sunday, 12 December, 2021. The Federation also appointed former international Augustine Eguavoen, currently its Technical Director, as the technical Adviser of the Super Eagles on an interim basis. The statement added, “Following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday, it was decided that Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer). “Former Nigeria captains: Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal have been appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.” NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi thanked the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development for “collaboration and guidance”. “The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria,” Sanusi added. Eguavoen will be looking to guide the team to success at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon pending the appointment of a substantive head coach. The ex-international was coach of the squad when it finished in third place at AFCON 2006 in Egypt. During his playing days, he captained the team to its first AFCON title on away ground in Tunisia 27 years ago.
The Super Eagles won Liberia as they extended their lead at their group table. It was a well deserved victory for Genort Rohr men as they were the better team both defensively and offensively. They completed the double against the Lone Stars, they already won 2-0 in the first leg and won 2-0 in the second leg. Following the match up, there was a referee decision made against Nigeria that would have needed a look from the Video assistant referee. Unfortunately, the Video assistant referee isn't used in African football and Liberia went away with that one. Victor Osimhen put Nigeria in the lead after he scored from the penalty spot. Kelechi Iheanacho was tripped by Liberia's goalkeeper and won the penalty for the Super Eagles. Victor Osimhen put the penalty away sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Minutes after Osimhen opened the scoring, Jamilu Collins had the ball in the net but he was ruled out for offside. Kelechi Iheanacho played a brilliant ball through to Jamilu Collins who scored a brilliant goal but the goal was ruled out. There's actually no need to have a look from VAR's perspective, Collins was clearly onside before Kelechi Iheanacho passed the ball. Liberia's last defender was about a step ahead of Jamilu Collins before he received the pass, that's never an offside and it wasn't the best decision from the referee. It's high time the Confederation of African Football introduces VAR. In recent times, we've seen situations that should have a second review but the referee decision is always the final say in these situations.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has revealed that he had appealed to Odion Ighalo to reconsider his decision to quit the national team. Ighalo quit the Super Eagles two years ago, after leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, emerging as tournament top scorer with five goals. Pinnick stated this via Instagram on Monday, October 25, when he visited England-based Super Eagles players. “I had a long conversation with Odion Ighalo, personally I believe we need experience in our attack to combine with our energetically youthful (Victor) Osimhen, (Paul) Onuachu, Kelechi (Iheanacho) et al. Odion’s (Ighalo) body language is very positive. We are also in touch with his agents and club,” Pinnick wrote on Instagram. However, Amaju Pinnick statement on Instagram has elicited criticism from several Nigerians, those who commented on Pinnick’s post, questioned the NFF boss’ decision to bring back Ighalo to the team. “I think you started very well until your mention of Odion Ighalo. Odion is on retirement, let’s focus on Osimhen, (Taiwo) Awoniyi, and Onuachu who are going a great job at the club and national level,” @fidelenny wrote. @chidon2901 added, “I feel really disgusted hearing about Ighalo, damn, Osimhen is world rave of the moment, Ighalo has paid his dues, actually, the team needs a creative midfielder and a winger who can score and assist, so he should be talking of Victor Moses coming and also tell Rohr to get a creative midfielder, not striker at all, Osimhen is Afcon qualifier top scorer.” According to @mr_tee_, the team should also try and bring back former captains Jay jay Okocha and Mikel Obi since Pinnick said the Eagles needed experience.
